Fifty years on, the spirit of the ‘The Sound of Music’ still resonates through the charming streets of Salzburg. The cult musical set in the `30s starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer follows the story of Maria, a young nun who becomes a governess for a strict widower, Navy captain Georg Von Trapp and his seven children, transforming their lives with happiness even as the darkness of war loomed.

Sing and dance your way through the Austrian city, best known as the home of Mozart and take a tour of the movie’s most iconic locations: from Mirabell Gardens to the Pegasus Fountain (where Maria and the children dance) and the Hellbrunn palace. The tour also takes you past Schloss Leopoldskron where the family lived and to Nonnberg Convent, as well as to the scenic Wolfgangsee where several of the film’s scenes were filmed. Romantics will love the chance to walk down the aisle of Mondsee Basilica, just like Maria and Captain van Trapp did.

Absorb Salzburg’s unique atmosphere, and, if you listen very, very carefully you might just hear something, because the hills really are alive with the sound of music…
